High Tide - Dad's birthday card

Sunday 9th July was my Dad's birthday, and we had a lovely day celebrating with a BBQ in their garden.

I always struggle with cards for men, and find that the High Tide stamp set helps me to create a lovely card, with a masculine feel to it.

This card involves the Masking Technique, so I shall walk you through each stage of the card preparation.

Firstly I stamped the lighthouse in Red, and then overstamped with the 2nd stamp in black.

The stamp for the ground is shaped to fit perfectly around the lighthouse, and I used Crumbcake as this is a more muted brown for the ground.

Adding the sea to the card becomes more difficult as you need to match up the sea with the land and the lighthouse, but you don't want to stamp over the images already there.

To enable me to stamp around the lighthouse and the ground, I had to mask off the parts I had already stamped.  To do this I stamped the same images onto sticky post it notes, fussy cut around them, and the covered up the stamped image on my whisper white cardstock.

Once the mask was in place using Pool Party, and Soft Sky ink pads, I stamped a couple of times each side of the lighthouse to add the sea.  As you can see the sea is stamped onto the post it notes.

Having stamped the sea, the post it notes were then removed, illustrated below how the lighthouse, ground and sea all fit nicely next to each other without any overstamping of any of the images.

The birds were then stamped on to the whisper white, using Early Espresso.  I didn't want the birds to be too dark, so I stamped onto a scrap piece of paper lightly before stamping on to the main image.

Soft sky was sponged onto the white card lightly to create a textured sky without being over powering.  I like to sponge around the whisper white card as this softens the edge of the image ready to go onto the card.

Black card, Smokey Slate card and some retired DSP were then used to matt & layer the image to make it stand out.

The sentiment was added from the Guy Greetings stamp set, and using the most fabulous large letters framelit dies, I cut out the word Dad. Unfortunately it looks a little tipsy when I stuck the lettering to the card but I am sure my Dad won't mind.
